Peru's July Cement Sales Rise On Construction Gains

LIMA -(Dow Jones)- Peru's overall cement sales in July rose 14.9% to 377,939 metric tons from the same month a year before, with Cementos Lima SA leading the way, the National Association of Cement Producers, or Asocem, said Monday.

Cementos Lima sold 192,319 tons of cement in July, including the 67,983 tons sold for export in the month, the association said.

Cementos Pacasmayo SAA, the second largest cement producer, had sales of 58, 019 tons in July, it added.

In the January to July period, overall cement sales totaled 2,606,303 tons of cement,a 9.7% increase from the 2,375,900 tons sold in the same period a year before.

Cement production, an indicator of domestic demand, is a key component of activity in the construction sector.

Peru's construction sector expanded by 5.65% in the January to June period this year compared with the same period last year, the government's statistics agency, INEI, said in a separate report Monday.
