新兴市场水泥需求旺盛 Holcim2004利润增加

　　公司2004年全年挣得9.14 亿瑞士法郎（8.08亿美金），2003年是6.86亿法郎。Holcim公司的有关人士说公司的赢利也是得益于公司针对美元贬值所采取的成本控制。据中国水泥网了解，Holcim公司２００４年销售额增加5%达132亿瑞士法郎（117亿美金），2003年的销售额是126亿法郎。

　　Holcim在新兴市场的重要地位为Holcim带来利益，是Holcim和拉法基所不同的地方。拉法基2004年的赢利比预期的要少并且由于能量成本增加等原因，2005年营业利润增长将会比较缓慢。

　　据Holcim公司有关人士说，随着水泥需求的增多和成本效益措施处理得当，Holcim公司今年利润有望增加。

　　目前这个瑞士的水泥集团正在收购集料工业的英国PLC公司，同时该公司正设法得到印度第二大水泥公司的部分管理权。

Cement Maker Holcim Ltd. Reports 33 Percent Profit Increase on Strong Demand 

Holcim Ltd., the world's second-largest cement maker, reported a 33 percent increase in net profit for 2004 on Wednesday, due to strong demand that allowed it to raise prices and growth in emerging markets.

The company earned 914 million Swiss francs (US$808 million; euro592 million) for the full year, up from 686 million francs in 2003. That beat analysts' forecasts of a 895 million-franc (US$791 million; euro580 million) profit. 

Holcim also said it benefited from tight cost controls used to cushion the company against the weakness of the U.S. dollar. 

Sales increased 5 percent to 13.2 billion francs (US$11.7 billion; euro8.6 billion), from 12.6 billion francs the previous year. 

The company did not release figures for the fourth quarter. 

"Holcim's strong presence in emerging markets has once again paid off, and that's what makes the difference (between Holcim and) Lafarge SA," said Bank Leu analyst Patrick Appenzeller. 

French-based Lafarge, the world's biggest cement maker, reported 2004 earnings below expectations and forecast a slowdown in operating profit growth in 2005 due to high energy costs and weak markets. 

At close of trading in Zurich, shares in Holcim were down 2.2 percent at 77 francs (US$66.07; euro50.11). Holcim's stock has risen steadily recently, gaining 6 percent in the past four weeks. 

Continued strong demand for cement and efficiency measures are expected to further increase profits this year. Earnings will receive a further boost from the company's current acquisition plans, Holcim said. 

The Swiss company is in the process of acquiring British-based Aggregate Industries PLC. It is also moving to gain control of India's No. 2 cement player, Associated Cement Companies Ltd.
